What Can Vegans Eat?

Before becoming a vegan one is sure to notice all those nice looking pictures of vegan food. These are seen in food magazines and on the internet. The plates are done up to look so beautiful, almost like culinary art. The truth is unless you are raised a vegan it can be tough, very tough  to become on and stick it out. You’ll find yourself asking: what is a vegan? What can vegans eat? Is this really healthy for me? These are all fair questions about Veganism, so let’s address them.

What Can Vegans Eat

What is Veganism? – A vegan, according to Wikipedia, completely eliminates the use of non-human animal products. Not just for dietary matters like vegetarians but for all aspects of life such as cleaning around the house, washing yourself in the shower and even saying goodbye to some of the best things about being a non-vegan, like not being able to eat with the people you love at dinnertime.

What can Vegans Eat? – A Vegan can eat anything that has nothing to do with and has no trace back to animals. That includes all vegetables and natural earth grown products. Some on the shelve types of bread are Vegan, such as wonderbread. Be careful though because a lot of foods have hidden ingredients such as milk powder or eggs. As a vegan, you cannot even think about milk or eggs, as they originate from an animal.

Is turning vegan really healthy for me?

As with any plant based diet at first it is going to be tough to wean yourself off of meat. For many of us, that is the only source of protein we have. But, while meat and animal products are a source of protein they are not easily digestible and are not what vegans can eat. If you stick with the vegan diet you will notice tremendous health benefits including, but not limited to:

  • More energy
  • Easier to digest food
  • Longer life
  • Less chance of getting a disease

Of course there are many more benefits from turning over to a life of veganism, but those are at the top of the list.

The Hardest Part…

By far the greatest challenge of eating vegan is your friends. If you go hardcore vegan, you may lose a few cheeseburger cooking friends. These are the people that love to cook for you, take you out to eat and when they find out you can’t eat anything on the menu – they will indeed get frustrated by your non-animal eating ways.
